Let’s Make Sushi

by Nicci on 01/11/2010

Sushi Party!!

Last Friday was so much fun with Kelsey, Trinity and Kristin.  We all got together at Trinity and Kristin’s house for dinner.

Appetizer: Pot stickers

Chopped leek, garlic, gimme lean original, cabbage, carrot, ground ginger and soy sauce.

Dinner:

My Roll:

Spicey tempeh, cucumber, avocado, carrot, butternut squash, scallion and sesame seeds.

Trin said ”rice is what makes the sushi smell so good, not the fish”.

All of our sushi was Vegan…and full of flavor.

Who can go wrong with sushi and wine.

Yum Yum Yum…every bite was delicious.

Are you a sushi fan, what’s your favorite?

Giveaway Time!!

Rose over at ”On a Lobster Placemat”  has a Aurorae Yoga Mat Giveaway going on, so hurry over and enter.

I’m in the need of a newer and thicker yoga mat so you know I’ve done my entering!

I really want to try making sushi but have not yet. Best sushi I had was at Yoko’s in Tampa, but the most creative roll I’ve had was at Tokyo Dining at Disney’s Epcot. Futomaki Roll – Egg omelet, eel, smelt roe, cooked shiitake mushroom, cooked gourd with sushi rice. 8 pieces per order. – $12.00 It was a massive roll!
This is the best yoga mat I have ever touched: http://www.jadeyoga.com/store/product.php?productid=16134&cat=249&page=1
It’s slip free, all natural, thick and lovely. No I don’t work for them :)

I’m going to check out that yoga website, thanks Betty!

My husband on the other hand, loves all sushi!

emily January 13, 2010 at 3:21 pm

I love sushi, and love making it. I had always been afraid to make it until a couple of months ago. It’s fun and not really hard!
My favorite sushi is ALL SUSHI!

DaMora January 12, 2010 at 10:14 pm

I love Sushi. I’ve never actually made any before, but have a bunch of cute little sushi dishes and even have a rolling mat. Maybe I should plan and Sushi party with the girlfriends too.

Trinity January 12, 2010 at 7:59 pm

That was so fun! I love that you included my mini-bow photo ;)

Emily January 12, 2010 at 7:50 pm

Looks like such a fun party! I’ve only made sushi once, but it was really fun and delish.

Erica January 12, 2010 at 7:25 pm

What a fun dinner! I’ve never actually tried sushi! I bet vegan sushi is awesome though! Whats not to love? Hope you’re having a fabulous week

Alyson January 12, 2010 at 2:12 pm

Love the idea of having a Sushi Party.. and definitely more healthy than the recent Cookie Parties :p I love love Sushi. My favorite depends on my mood. I also try the Rainbow Roll, but sometimes I just love plain sashimi.

Kat January 12, 2010 at 10:36 am

I LOVE sushi but get weirded out about raw fish sometimes – and I’ve never been keen on the type with the fish draped on top or sashimi. Of course my favorites are the fried tempura rolls with some kind of calorie-laden sauce drizzled on top, the absolute worst health-wise! One of my faves from my favorite sushi place is a Hawaiian roll – it’s got some kind of fish or shellfish plus avocado and mango rolled in rice and coconut with a coconut sauce drizzled on top. HOLY CRAP. I’ve made my own like y’all did a few times, but I’d like to try making some with the rice on the outside next!

Kelly January 12, 2010 at 9:23 am

I LOVE sushi! My fave is just a plain jain ahi tuna roll. So good!! But your creation looks and sounds pretty fantastic!

Laura Georgina January 12, 2010 at 6:28 am

I love crispy salmon skin rolls and eel rolls, and a new favorite is a roll with thin plantain slices around a regular salmon roll–it’s called the Caribbean roll and is so, so good….

Nicci January 12, 2010 at 1:13 pm

I love eel also Laura, especially the sauce.

eatmovelove January 11, 2010 at 6:54 pm

Get togethers are always so worth it! You know I’ve never tried sushi…I know, I’m so out of the loop ;) …it’s on my list of things to do :)

Meredith (Pursuing Balance) January 11, 2010 at 6:50 pm

Yummy! I always eat veggie sushi too. One of my fave combos was at a cute place called Mr. Yum’s — it included avocado and sundried tomatoes! Yummy!

Kristen @ Change of Pace January 11, 2010 at 6:16 pm

I really wish I liked sushi but it’s the ONLY food I don’t like. Something about the seaweed. I really wish I liked it because it’s so pretty and so good for you!

Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) January 11, 2010 at 5:42 pm

I love sushi – especially the salmon ones. I also love vegetarian sushi, or unhealthy rolls like dynamite or spider rolls.

Pot stickers are SO good!! I love the ones from Costco.

Meg January 11, 2010 at 5:28 pm

I love, love, love sushi!! Especially spicy tuna. I could eat spicy tuna rolls until the cows came home :) Now I just need to learn how to make sushi myself.
Looks like you guys had fun!

Nicci January 11, 2010 at 5:39 pm

It was so easy to make, I had a sushi kit with rolling mats and Trin cut up all the ingredients. check her blog for a video to making sushi.
