Getting My Austin Greek On

by Nicci on 09/13/2010

I’m in the great City of Austin for a HUD training this week until Friday.

My goal this week is to study after classes, but also fit in some fun and check out the city.

Felt like a dream rolling out of bed for a 5:30am treadmill run.

That was a first in a loooong time to be up that early!

Work out

Big FAIL forgetting to pack my earphones so I watched TV and busted out 3 miles on the treadmill.

Hotel Fitness Center

Back in my room, I pulled out my Yoga mat for AB exercises.Yoga Mat

The tummy started to rumbled so I made my way to the hotel breakfast bar.

Avoided the good looking doughnuts….boooo LOL

Picked up a strawberry yogurt & banana.

Yogurt n fruit

Then came the no flavor eggs and a good half of a bagel with PB & honey.

Greek for Lunch!!

Met a nice lady in class who suggested Greek; so my coworkers and I followed her to ”Austin Greek Deli”, a tiny Mom & Pop deli!

So my coworkers have never eaten Greek but they were daring & adventurous today.

Usually, they are very, very, picky eaters. Shocked they even said YES!

The service was fast and the food was the BOMBdelicious!  Thanks to Cathy, the lady we met in class.

She definitely knew her Greek food ;)

What’s a new City you visited lately? Did you try any new foods or restaurants?

Have fun in Austin! I love Greek food. Over the summer I travelled to some new cities and my favorite was Marrakech. The food was insanely amazing.

Way to go — getting in a workout at the crack of dawn — minus your music.

I like the slogan of the capitol: Keep Austin weird…

Greek food is amazing! But Italian and Mexican are still my two top favs..then Indian..then Greek! Haha. Looks like you’re staying busy–hope all is well!

The last new city I visited was NY in April, and I tried all kinds of new restaurants!

Good job getting up early to get the work out on!

I went to Portsmouth, NH this summer. There are several great restaurants there AND beer places too!

when i moved to Corpus Christi, I really felt food was going to be boring again. LOL. I was wrong. I discovered a restaurant called HU DAT NOODLEHOUSE. They have pho, sushi, all sorts of noodles and rice dishes, etc. It’s such an amazing place!!! I’ve eaten there twice already since I’ve been here (it;s been 3 weeks). I also ate at this restaurant by the ocean called Waterstreet. it’s a seafood place and they serve sushi as well. I didn’t get seafood, I got their burger instead with their homemade sweet potatoe fries – WOW. Excellent place! :)

Noodlehouse sounds delish!

Woo-hoo for 5:30am workouts! Nothing like a 3 mile run to get a long day of workshops and conference-talk off to a good start :)

The newest city I’ve visited lately was Asheville, NC in August for vacation. The food scene was out-of-this world!

Glad you’re enjoying your visit to Austin!

I love Greek food! Have you been to Zorba’s in Plano (best Gyro ever) or Ali Baba (best babaganoush and falafel)? Way to go working out while away!

Nicci September 17, 2010 at 1:09 am

No, I’ll have to check Plano out.

I haven’t had Greek food in a while! It looks delicious. I love that you were up and at ‘em on the treadmill nice and early. I used to do that on business trips and my co-workers sometimes thought I was a little nutso for it;)

Nicci September 15, 2010 at 8:44 pm

Mmmm I LOVE Greek! I’m headed to Austin next month and can’t wait!! But I’ll be there for Austin City Limits, so probably won’t have tooo much time to do a lot of exploring. Have fun!!

Kristina @ spabettie September 14, 2010 at 12:27 am

I LOVE Austin… we have many friends there and go each spring for SXSW – SO fun! :)

The last NEW city I visited was a few months ago – taking a 4 day spa weekend to Santa Fe… *SIGH* it was fabulous.
